Our commitment

Good for people, good for forests

From sourcing materials to artisan partnerships to production, we set out to make beautiful rattan products that do right by the people who make them and the forests they come from.

Rattan is naturally renewable: a climbing palm that typically grows back within 4–5 years of harvesting. We source from managed forests that put forest health ahead of harvest volume — selective harvesting, no deforestation or conversion of forest land, and traceability from forest to finished product.

“Sustainability isn’t just a marketing claim — it’s embedded in everything we do.”
— Bali Rattan Craft

For retailers, that matters: customers increasingly look for sustainable options, and natural, responsibly sourced rattan fits the values of conscious buyers.

Our practices

How we keep rattan responsible

The day-to-day practices behind our sustainability pillars.

Selective harvesting

Rattan from managed forests, harvested to maintain forest health — never from deforestation or converted land.

Traceable supply

We track material origins so a product can be traced from forest to finished piece.

Fair partnerships

Direct relationships with artisan cooperatives, with fair wages, safe conditions and long-term work.

Natural finishes

Natural oils, plant-based dyes and non-toxic treatments — no harsh synthetic finishes.

Low-impact packaging

Packaging materials that decompose naturally, with minimal plastic throughout shipping.

Minimal waste

Rattan offcuts are composted or repurposed into decorative and functional pieces.

Living heritage

Training preserves traditional Balinese weaving techniques and builds new skills.

The people behind every piece

Every order supports artisan communities in Bali: fair wages, well-equipped workshops with proper ventilation and lighting, and long-term partnerships that give families consistent, reliable work.

Skills programmes pass traditional techniques to new weavers, and part of our profits supports local communities and conservation — sustainable business means supporting the people who make the product.

FAQ

Sustainability, answered

Need documentation for a specific product? Ask our team.

Ask on WhatsApp
Is your rattan sustainably sourced?

Yes. We source from managed forests that use selective harvesting, and we do not use rattan from areas with poor harvesting practices or deforestation concerns.

How can we check your sustainability claims?

Ask us about a specific product and we will share the sourcing and chain-of-custody documentation we hold for it, together with certificates of origin for export.

Why is rattan more sustainable than other materials?

It regrows in 4–5 years without replanting, is fully biodegradable, needs no chemical treatment and supports forest conservation when harvested responsibly — unlike plastic or synthetic alternatives.

Do you use chemicals or toxic dyes?

No. We use natural finishes, plant-based dyes and non-toxic treatments that are safe for artisans and end users.

How do fair wages affect your pricing?

Fair wages add to production costs, but efficient operations keep our pricing competitive. Ethical practice is non-negotiable for us, even when it costs slightly more.

Can we market the products as eco-friendly?

Yes. We supply product documentation and marketing information so you can communicate sustainability to your customers with confidence — ask what is available per product.
